Active Year : 1981 to 1989
As a kid, I loved racing my cycle at my school ground and over bumps around, speed felt like my thing.
Motorsports back then was not an organized sports stream, I trained on my own. Hailing from a Business family, I was never supported by my family to participate given the risks of the sport.
I participated in my first race in 1981 at Mumbai, no formal training, no godfather, no imported bikes, just pure PASSION. I used to drive Rajdoot GTS, there was rarely a category for GTS bikes so I always raced in the higher classes.
I always started in a leading position in my races but technical failures made me quit races during my initial years. These multiple bike failures couldn't hold me back and I bounced back each time!
My first win came only in 1985 at Pune where I scored a 2nd position. The highlight of this event was a camelback jump that I used to ride. It was a dreaded one that no one in my category/ higher category used to attempt. This jump consisted of 2 bumps back to back at the height of 8-10 Feet.
During 1985-87 I won 5 prizes.
In 1986 at Bangalore in a race organized by the Yezdi club, I scored the 1S position. I have had memorable races with Richard Greg, my rally partner in the 100 CC class. I signed off in 1989, my last race. I'm very thankful to Mr. Dhananjay Vadnagare for his valuable guidance throughout my motorsports career.
Many races and wins later my learning for life from my favorite sport is to get up and ride back after every fall.
